Fuji X-Trans RAW File Post Processing – ACR/Photoshop
I put together a short tutorial video on processing the Fuji RAW files using ACR, in order to give people a starting point for their own RAW file post processing.
PP on X-Trans files is different to other Bayer sensor derived images, so yur existing PP may not get you the desired results from the get-go.
This video walks you through the import of the RAW file, and processing using the controls in ACR to get a clean, sharp, well exposed image file in Photoshop/LightRoom.

Hi,
I am struggling to see how this is any different from how I would have processed any RAW file. What in this approach is Fuji specific?
Ian
Hi Ian – couple of things that I found required tweaks vs non X-Trans RAW conversions.
Initial sharpening levels – the X-Trans has no AA filter, so the RAW file has a very different look RE perceived sharpness, and requires a different level of sharpening because of that.
Black Levels – The Fuji exposure is very well done ETTR, but does benefit from adding black back into the processed image, to improve contrast and dynamic range, but more importantly to improve perceived crispness of the final image.
Foliage – Initial reports on X-Trans RAW conversion suggested that there were issues with the way the sensor or RAW processing software handled green foliage, so that was addressed in the video tutorial.

Thank you for an understandable way of explaining ACR/Photoshop.
I’m trying to learn about all the many functions of Photoshop, after I do not know how many tutorials I already looked up, for me yours is the best to understand. I hope you put more videos up about how to do more in Photoshop, to get the best out of my photos.
I’m a happy user of Fuji X cameras, X-1pro, x-E1, X 100S
